Professional experience

My career in human resources began in the mid-1990's working for one of New Zealand’s largest commercial organisations as part of a large HR team where I got off to a flying start (literally and figuratively) and got the opportunity to do a short term assignment based in Los Angeles.  Launching off this foundation, I have grown my career across a broad range of industries including aviation, utilities, pharmaceutical/medical devices, insurance, logistics/transport/distribution, manufacturing, local government, NFP and telecommunications.  From small New Zealand owned and operated businesses, to large global corporations, organisations as small as 10 and more than 45,000 worldwide, my experience has given me the ability to see how you scale HR services to be fit for purpose.

I have also been on the ‘other side’ where, as a line manager, I got to experience first-hand how HR adds value to our customers.  Having been a member of senior leadership teams, worked both in-house and as a contractor/consultant, I enjoy understanding what makes a business tick and how to work across the full HR remit to help businesses perform better.  Although I consider myself very much an HR generalist, my areas of expertise would include change leadership, including reorganisation/restructuring, employment relations, performance management, remuneration and benefits, culture and values.  More importantly, I like to think strategically and deliver operationally.

Education

I completed my Diploma in Business Studies (Management) with AIT in 1998 and received the New Zealand Institute of Management Top Student Award.  I was also privileged to be sponsored to attend the Strategic Human Resource Management residential programme at the Australian Graduate School of Management in 2002.  I continue to focus on my learning and development and regularly attend short courses.

On a personal note

A born and bred Aucklander, I still live in Auckland and absolutely love the city despite some of its obvious challenges.  I’ve been fortunate enough to ski since I was a young girl and skiing continues to be my passion.  Everything else I do - from work, health, fitness and travel – it’s all geared to support my passion for skiing.  I married my husband in Switzerland and we skied on our wedding day – that was 20 years ago and gives us a great reason to keep going back!  We’re the crazy ones that escape the New Zealand summer and go chasing fluffy white stuff on the other side of the world.
